The epitome of hypocracy

Filed under: Newsworthy, Politics — aproposofnothing @ 5:45 pm

The airport in Bali where the UN Conference on Climate Change will be held is concerned that they will not have enough apron space for all of the private jets that will be landing the delegates. Wouldn’t it have made sense to have all of the delegates fly commercial to make a statement about the wastefullness of using so much fossil fuel to fly in on a private jet? I read somewhere that one hour of flight in a private jet is equivalent to one year of driving an SUV. So how many hours of flight are involved with this conference? Let’s say it takes 20 hours to fly from NY to Bali, that would be 40 years worth of driving an SUV, for one plane for a round trip flight!

An Inconvenient Truth indeed!

The Patriots

Filed under: Sports — aproposofnothing @ 1:18 am

The New England Patriots are having a historic year, but to tell you the truth, I am getting sick and tired of hearing about how great Tom Brady is. As a former center and defensive tackle, I must say that if he had any more time to throw the ball, he would have a lawn chair in the backfield. New England’s offensive line (and defensive line also) is the best in the NFL by far. If the NFL does not give the MVP trophy to their offensive line, it will be a travesty. You could put Tim Couch in that backfield and he would win games. I’m not saying Brady is a bad quarterback, but look back at the games where he has been pressured and compare that to the final score and you will know what I am talking about. Lineman in the NFL do NOT get the recognition they deserve.

And you know that Darth Belichick controls everything.

Odd motivational posters seems to be a big thin in the blogosphere lately.  I try to find unique ones or make my own.  If you come across a good one that you don’t see everywhere else, let me know.

Most expensive per gallon:
London, UK: $6.65
Paris, France: $6.62
Copenhagen, Denmark: $6.51
Oslo, Norway: $6.48
Berlin, Germany: $6.42

Also, did you know that less that 20% of the oil we use comes from the Middle East?

Where in the World Does Our Oil Come From?

About three-quarters of the oil used in the United States comes from outside the Persian Gulf in the Middle East. That’s due to large North American producers like the U.S. itself, Canada and Mexico. The U.S. is among the world’s leaders in oil production.

Almost 40% of the oil we consume is produced here at home, primarily in Texas, Alaska, California, Louisiana, and Oklahoma.
