My musical tastes have always seemed to gravitate towards obscure bands, I don’t know why. Maybe it’s because I have a very eclectic taste in music. My iPod has music from Metallica, Johnny Cash, Pavorati, Eminem, Kid Rock and the Beastie Boys etc… If it sounds good to me, i will listen to it!
Here are some artists that you may not have heard of, but are worth a listen.

Apropos of Nothing 
Actually the music video was put together by me specifically.. it is just posted in the Brickfilms film archive. You are correct in that the Fabulous Poodles were a great fun band. They opened for Tom Petty at one concert I went to and completely overshadowed Petty’s attempt at singing. Even the girl that went with me (a big Tom Petty fan) said they were much better.

Wall of Voodoo obscure? Not here in SoCal…Stan Ridgway’s band opened frequently for Oingo Boingo, The B52’s and The Cure. I remember him bringing a 5th of Jack Daniels on stage and polishing it off during his set…he was so wasted that the crowd sang Mexican Radio for him…

The guy who engineered Keep Your Hands to Yourself, produced a little CD I did back in college. He was a pretty good engineer of course, had the gold album on the wall. He was also quite accomplished at blowing sunshine up performer’s asses. But I guess that’s par for the course. Won’t lie and say I don’t miss those days a bit.

Wall of Voodoo obscure? Guess it depends on your definition of ‘obscure.’
My fave obscure band? “Mama Lion” featuring Lynn Carey (NOT L.C. Saylor), one of the best voices you’ve never heard. Only two albums, but she did do some other stuff, mostly with Neil Merriwether (sp?). Anyway, only one YouTube tribute to Mama Lion exists, with photos of her from the internets:

Maybe not so obscure, but you don’t hear them very often here in the New York market. Should titled it “Great bands that should be remembered”.

4) Mama Lion sounds really good!

obscure bands? i’ll tell ya about obscure bands. wall of voodoo had tens of thousands of units sold. who could count all the bands these days doing releases of 500 or less. just check out maximum rocknroll,razorcake,roctober,profane existence. buttloads of bands with limited buy it now or say goodbye forever records. i guess for a major label band, wall of voodoo could be counted as obscure. the indies is where it’s at for the real hard to find stuff.
