Today is “The Day Music Died.” On this day in 1959, a small four-passenger plane crashed in Clear Lake, Iowa, killing three very talented, young musicians in the prime of their careers: Buddy Holly, Richie Valens, and J.P. “The Big Bopper” Richardson. The phrase itself was popularized by Don McLean in his 1971 song “American Pie.”
